Filmer des chevaux camarguais par drone: voilà une expérience que nous ne sommes pas prêt d'oublier!
A la demande de la société de production MFPtv (filiale à 100% de France Télévisions), nous venons de participer à notre premier tournage de documentaire animalier.
Il s'agissait de filmer les chevaux dans de grands espaces (en Camargue, donc) pour le film «Cheval de Camargue, seigneur des marais» de Laurent Charbonnier et Jean-Pierre Laborde (diffusion France 2 le 8 février 2015). Laurent est par ailleurs chef-opérateur du film et a participé aux tournages des célèbres films de Jacques Perrin (Microcosmos, Peuple migrateur et Océans).
Les réalisateurs attendaient de nous des images bien précises pour des séquences écrites. Il n'y avait donc pas vraiment de place au hasard ou à l'approximation, même si par essence les animaux restent imprévisibles.
Il nous a donc fallu être réactif, et anticiper, par exemple, les mouvements des deux étalons galopants dans les eaux du Vaccarès. Pas évident quant l'un d'eux - après avoir craint le drone les premières minutes - prenait un malin plaisir à accélérer en direction de notre caméra volante, plus par jeu ou curiosité que par agressivité. Etant à sa hauteur, l'étalon pouvait facilement percuter l'octocoptère et se blesser.
Le pilote n'avait pas une seconde pour réagir, le cadreur aussi fut mis à rude épreuve et le 3ème axe n'était pas un luxe! C'était même indispensable pour ce type de mission. Il a même fallu augmenter la réactivité des commandes afin de ne pas être distancé par nos chevaux.
La grande inconnue pour toute l'équipe était la nature de la réaction de cet animal face au drone. Nous devions les approcher sans les effrayer.
Aller chercher des plans serrés sans les mettre en danger ou les faire fuir. Grâce au zoom de notre caméra embarquée ce fut possible sans peine, car après un quart d'heure de vol, les chevaux cessaient de s'en pré-occuper.
Ne percevant pas de menaces, ni le bruit, ni le vent brassé ne semblait les importuner. Leurs jeux, leur vie reprenaient, simplement.
Ainsi, étalons, juments et poulains, en petits ou larges groupes, furent mis en boîte! Le drone volant souvent à 1 ou 2 mètres d'altitude seulement, par des vents atteignant parfois les 60-80 km en rafale, au ras de l'eau, et à grande vitesse (40-50 km/h).
Des frayeurs, nous en avons eut pour nos machines. Des sensations fortes surtout. Des larmes de joies en capturant les images demandées, et plein des piqures de moustiques aussi (surtout à 5h du matin près de l'eau!).
La Camargue? Ca se mérite mais c'est tellement beau, vu d'en haut, ou au ras de l'eau!
